The Garlock asbestos bankruptcy opinion continues to generate fallout and follow up. Among other things, Ford has now filed motion papers in the Garlock case to try to obtain access to the sealed documents. Ford very logically and correctly seeks the documents on the grounds that it was involved in some of the same cases as Garlock, and the public has a general right of access to trial records.

Hopefully Judge Hodges will soon reverse ground and open up the trial record in the Garlock case. Like all phases of the operations of asbestos trusts, all phases of bankruptcy court proceedings need much more transparency.
